Happy April Fools Day! Evidently
a lot of people thought Google's gigabyte of free email storage was an
April Fools joke. It's not -- but the lunar job posting is.

Today Apple announced the vrPod, an extension of the popular iPod
portable music player. The vrPod is a portable QuickTime VR and music
player with a capacity of 1,000 VRs and 1,000 songs. It comes with
special wired VR sunglasses which enable viewing virtual reality (VR)
scenes without having to wear uncomfortable goggles, and without others
realizing you are visiting another world. The ideal device for those
endless plane or subway rides, or anytime you need to get away for a virtual vacation. The
vrPod device weighs 6 ounces and lasts for 8 hours of viewing using the
built-in battery. Recessed in the case, the 1.67 inch (diagonal)
backlit screen displays VR scene names, song names, and more. Like the
popular iPod, full control of your media collection rests under your
thumb. Always striving for perfection, Apple engineers used the mini
Click Wheel to give you the enhanced durability and sensitivity of the
iPod Touch Wheel, with buttons underneath. The Click Wheel takes best
advantage of limited space and lets you scroll single-handedly through
1000 VRs from your iWorld VR collection, 1000 songs from your iTunes
collection, or navigate inside a VR scene. Supplies of the $499
vrPod are expected to be constrained by Hitachi 1 inch hard disk
production, but the product should be available at Apple Stores by the
end of the month.
Along with the vrPod announcement, Apple introduced iWorld, a VR
jukebox. Welcome to a VR store with tens of thousands of VR scenes
which you can conveniently browse, search, preview, buy and download
the best VRs. Scenes are licensed from VR photographers around the
globe, and allow you to visit some of the world's most interesting
places. Welcome to the best friend a vrPod ever had: iWorld. The vrPod,
and iWorld use QuickTime, the platform of choice for multimedia and web
designers, producers and distributors.

Purpose |
VRlog provides news, developments and analysis of the virtual reality (VR) world from a nature photographer's perspective. Since I am not connected to or funded by any VR vendor, I intend to objectively appraise what's going on, and the direction VR is headed in. -- erik goetze
