I don't think I posted this link to a review of the Nikon D70 by Thom Hogan before. It seems pretty in-depth. He says the D70's Compressed NEF format is lossy, while I see other people saying it is not. I find more authoritative sources saying it is a lossy format than not.

Update: Fazal Majid writes that he has studied the issue at length and found it is lossy.
