deliVRator 2.0 (the QuickTime editor and Internet delivery optimization tool) has many noteworthy improvements over previous versions,
including the QuickTime VR Node editor, Advanced Movie Security
Manager, Edit QuickTime VR mode, and more. It has useful features like
the ability to simulate how a QTVR looks to the user downloading over a
modem (or DSL; you select the download speed to emulate), optimizing
the sequencing of data in a VR, creating fast-start preview images, editing
and creating hotspots, extracting panoramic images, and editing low-level QT
data. From VRtools.

Dennis Biela to go on a road trip in a VW bug outfitted with an Xserve. From MacNN.
I'm looking forward to seeing Dennis' work. It sounds like he will be
doing a valuable service in educating the public about the value of VR by appearing at many shows across the land.
Side note: Many times I've heard photographers say they had to take their
professional signage off their car after it was broken into and tens of
thousands of dollars of equipment stolen. I see Dennis' bug is
plastered with signs that suggest "expensive goodies inside". I wonder how Dennis will protect his bug from
thieves?

"Digital photography is all the
rage right now, with most camera makers ditching their low-priced film
cameras in favor of digital point and shoots. With Apple's obsession
with music resulting in being king of mountain in digital downloads,
could Apple do the same with photography?" From MacNet.
There's some good ideas in this piece, such as iPhoto needing to
support RAW format better. But the article doesn't mention the VR
photography space at all. Apple helped popularize VR photography, and
there are a number of things they could do to make VRs happen directly
from iPhoto. But then they might have to update QTVRAS or provide a new
stitcher built-in to iPhoto.

The RealPlayer 10 software for Mac to be available in beta form on Wednesday, plays all Real
formats plus full-screen QuickTime and MPEG. But probably not VR! Will
post an update when I find out whether it does or not. From
PC Pro.

Purpose |
VRlog provides news, developments and analysis of the virtual reality (VR) world from a nature photographer's perspective. Since I am not connected to or funded by any VR vendor, I intend to objectively appraise what's going on, and the direction VR is headed in. -- erik goetze
