Another night, another dinner at another mind-bending location. This time it was Château Fleury, which has been housing Insead students for at least 20 years. Astoundingly, they have hosted a Wednesday night dinner continuously over that time; the matronly chef who I saw at Moret-sur-Loing has been cooking there since 1983.
These dinners are legendary for their wine consumption; the normal complement of twenty-five guests normally drain 35 bottles over the course of the evening. These are serious gourmands, and it is very easy for amateur drinkers (like Lucky) to get caught up in the excitement.
Events like this emphasize how diverse the student body is at Insead. At any time, you can hear several conversations in at least five different languages; only walking around the UN will you hear more. Each person you meet has dramatically different experiences, and there is much to be learned from everyone. I met several people whose experiences ranged from the European auto industry, UK consulting, and restructuring of companies in the ex-Soviet republics. There is so much to see, hear, and learn, if only you have the time and energy to keep up. This, I have found, is the most difficult part.
