Last week Lucky received feedback about his McWhimsey interview. While this can be difficult, it is a nice opportunity to find out where you need to improve; when looking for a regular job, you almost never find out what went wrong, or what you could have done to be more successful. This is a rare chance to peek behind the curtain and chat with the casting director.
Summary quotes from the interviewer:
"Everything went fine in the interview."
(this is ultimate backhanded compliment) "You went through the cases in a workmanlike fashion."
"We both would have liked to work with you."
"You should be more assertive when working through the case. The interviewer should be pulled along, and it should be less of a dialogue." Fair enough.
"You were competent in all areas; what we want to see is that you 'shoot the lights out' in one area, whether it is incredible insight in the case, or great leadership potential, or great interpersonal abilities."
All in all, pretty accurate feedback. Given another couple weeks' case interview practice, it might have been different. But perhaps not.
At any rate, lots of Lucky's friends made it through to the second round, and he will be cheering for them as they fly off in the next couple weeks. Onward.
