Microsoft marshals forces to try to stem open source momentum: "Linux's bark is turning into a bite for Microsoft. As a result, the software giant is stepping up to protect itself and keep corporate customers from turning to the open-source operating system to satisfy server and desktop needs." Computers Suck: "While this sounds like a trivial task [...] a couple of extra installs had to be done for the iMac. Network settings had to be adjusted, everything had to be tested &c. Very annoying and very time-consuming as well. Why isn't it enough to copy the Library, Applications and home folder? Why is there need for installers and hidden settings file in the Unix intestines? Why do we have to worry about file access permissions during that? Why is the Finder very bad at reporting what exactly went wrong when copying some files? Why can't it pinpoint – or preferably solve – the potential problems for you, asking for the necessary administrator passwords along the way?" [Quarter Life Crisis]

Patriot John Gilmore (supected terrorist): "The armed guards, the x-ray machines, the metal detectors, the pat downs, the search of luggage and personal effects, the removal of shoes, and for some, I suppose, the explanation of prosthetics, pacemakers, and appurtenances, constitutes a massive invasion of privacy. We have just come to accept this as a natural state of things because, like Gilmore, we're all suspected terrorists." [Lessig Blog]

A great little Mac utility: "I love software like this: simple little utilities that do one thing well. And it's even better when it's free. Meteorologist is the only free weather program for OS X. It's also the only weather program that allows users total control over their weather viewing experience [...]" [vowe dot net]

I today renewed Radio, and at the same time bought 50 MB additional disk space. Registering the new Radio license worked ok, but not the disk space. I get the error message shown below. (I tried several times.)
Sorry, there was an error registering your storage space on radio.weblogs.com:

Registration of additional storage space failed because an unexpected error occurred: Can't read stream because TCP/IP error code 10060 - Connection timed out.
