Armstrong Williams - Government Shill? Disclaimer - As a Libertarian I do not believe I have any obligation to weigh in on this story simply to be consistent in the faux debate between which wing of the ruling party in Washington is more adept at stealing my money to shamelessly promote the continual expansion of state control. Noting that the Department of Education is certainly on my short list for being designated one of the Central Government's biggest propaganda arms, I am indeed having trouble mustering alarm over the Armstrong Williams story. Once again, I have to put on my Louie Renault cap and say, "I'm shocked, shocked that politicians would feed me propaganda paid for with my own money!" For the record, Armstrong Williams does not rise to the level of a shill in my book. He is just a slimeball unless I hear that he will be refunding my money and he admits he is a whore. (No offense to honest whores there.) Unquestionably, there are far more shills paid by through the Bush Administration than Mr. Williams - probably similar to the number of guests in the Lincoln Bedroom whose names never appeared on a list. As for being upset on what our self-appointed leaders in Washington are up to with our money in the way of blatant propaganda, I am more concerned about the updated SSS sponsored radio ads that were running through the holidays with hook lines like, "Be a man, register with Selective Service. It's the law." And in a possibly related story from the current SSS hoepage: "Effective November 30, 2004, Mr. William A. Chatfield became the 11th Director of Selective Service. Mr. Chatfield, nominated by President George W. Bush, succeeds Acting Director Jack Martin, who remains the Chief Financial Officer for the U.S. Department of Education." A cozy database connection there I am sure between DE and SSS. But back to the main topic: Yes, if blowing the lid off and getting to the bottom of this propaganda scheme can topple the Bush administration or cripple its effectiveness to further expand state power in my life, go ahead spend more of my money. However, I am not holding my breath and gave up holding my nose many years ago. Canning Rod Paige will be a pleasant gesture, but it will change nothing until we the peasants self-educate ourselves and vote out the aristocracy in Washington...after of course we gain back control of the gerrymandered election process designed to keep our ruling party in power. 3:19:19 PM![]() |
