Miscellany

§ - PDF: Unfit for Human Consumption - Having had a couple of browser crashes just yesterday because I foolishly clicked on links not realizing first they were PDF files, it was nice to see Jakob Nielsen pointing out the "PDF Usability Crimes." I beg any of you who use PDF to include HTML versions of the material on your site whenever possible and offer the PDF version (clearly labeled as such) for those who want a paper printout. That way the PDF file is a treat rather than a disaster waiting to happen. (To avoid browser crashes, download the file and open it locally.)

§ - Eight Glasses a Day? It's Probably More Than We Need, Scientists Say - "For years, the message couldn't have been more clear. In response, people have been working overtime trying to down all that water. No question that water is important for health. But many experts are now saying that the gig is up on 'eight a day.'"

§ - God Bless Parcel Post - "The humans complain about airline food, but we rodents absolutely love it. Fantastic stuff. Just the right portion size for a rat, and made entirely from garbage. Heaven."
