§ - What Do Women Want? One Woman's Answer - "Yeah, I'd have to agree that American women have 'The Chip' on their shoulder - that we're angry, that we're bitter, that we're pissed. But permit me to shock you, Fred Reed - and all of you Fred Reed wannabes. We're not necessarily angry at you. In fact, some of us - I'd even go so far as to say that quite a few of us - know it's not your fault that we're juggling so many different roles, that we're tired of trying to keep so many balls in the air, that we're feeling stretched and pushed and pulled and twisted. Some of us recognize that nobody is to blame, that that's 'just the way it is.' But that doesn't mean that we want the entire burden of fixing the situation on our own, either." - More on the subject from Aimless.
§ - As L.A. expands, a familiar adversary returns: smog - "A half decade after announcing Los Angeles had its cleanest air in 50 years - and ceded the title of national smog capital to Houston - fresh concern is surfacing about the city's momentum in Windexing its skies."
§ - Officer Who Shot City Hall Gunman Is Promoted - "Thankfully, we will never know what would have happened had Officer Burt not been there, been so quick on his feet and been so accurate with his gun."
§ - A Question. Or Twelve. - "Hey, lady! Yeah, you, standing next to me in Target, having a REALLY LOUD conversation on your nifty walkie talkie phone."
Wientzen, the DMA's president ... during his interview last week on CBS News. "The reality is that, in spite of all the trouble that e-mail is causing, Americans and people all over the world—in fact a lot of people—do respond to e-mail offers, and they often respond to offers for things they didn't even know existed, from people they didn't know existed," Wientzen said.
If Wientzen really believes that, I invite him to publish his personal home and work e-mail addresses, and to list his home phone and cellular phone numbers on the DMA's Web site. Anyone want to bet that he'll put his privacy where his mouth is?
If you're wondering why the Mariners' 1:05 p.m. game against the Texas Rangers isn't on television Saturday, blame Seafair.
Contractually, Fox Sports Northwest can't televise a regional game that would conflict with the national Fox Sports baseball telecast.
To get over that hump, the Mariners would normally reschedule to the evening, but having a ballgame start while the Seafair Torchlight Parade was clogging downtown streets didn't seem prudent.
Okay, I can agree with that logic. Looks like Texas is in the same boat with regards to broadcasting since the game isn't even on MLB Extra Innings. Oh, well. At least Niehaus and Rizzs are just as good on the radio!
