Miscellany

§ - Food Service Safety - "We forced the guy to wash his hands...with lots of soap and the hottest water he could stand without scalding him...and then made sure he wore gloves before handling any more food!"

§ - Another weird lightning story - Safer on the Sofa?

§ - Books Spirited to Safety Before Iraq Library Fire - "The group worked through the night and into the next afternoon, carrying books on every subject but one. 'The books related to Saddam Hussein, we left them.'"

§ - For Mixed-Race South Africans, Equity Is Elusive - "People in all racial groups have felt the shocks and pangs of South Africa's slow and painful progress from authoritarian, racist rule to multicultural democracy. Unemployment, crime and the scourge of AIDS afflict all South Africans to varying degrees. But among the mixed-race residents of the Cape Flats, where poverty and unemployment help push young men into violent street gangs, and where life seems to have gotten harder since apartheid's end, many people say they feel there is no place for them in the new South Africa."

Little brains are fried nowadays before they even get a chance to hatch their own ideas.

    Family TV Viewing Survey

A friend of a friend is researching family tv viewing habits. I'll note that the questions are geared to families with children at home so I was sort of at a loss on how to answer since yes, I have a child but he doesn't fit in the 19 or younger age range. (He's 21, actually.) And while we did have tv rules when he was young, that changed over time—and of course now as an adult he's entirely on his own for his television choices. But if you've got kids at home the questions will be easy and you might be interested in participating.

Hi all! I have created a questionnaire to help me with some research I am doing on television viewing. Would you please go to this website and fill out the questionnaire? It is just 15 questions long.
