And, he offers advice for people writing programming languages today.

This guy has a great sense of humor, and has good ideas. Recommended reading.

My take: I like really old and very stable languages like Common Lisp and Smalltalk (although I find writing in Java to be a lot of fun - and productive). I think that Lisp-like languages will have a very long lifetime.

Because a friend recommended the show, I watched Bill Moyer's NOW show on PBS last night for the first time.

One of the segments was on a broad coalition of 152 republicans and democrats in Congress to tighten up the laws allowing large US corporations to easily base themselves offshore to avoid paying US taxes. Unfortunately, the House and Senate majority leaders are blocking the proposed bill from ever even getting to the floor for open debate. As we all know, the major news media in the US are owned by just a few very large corporations - so, most Americans will never even hear about this.

Please do read the linked article and then contact your Congressional representatives. Oh, by the way, if you are lucky enough to be directly represented by one of the 152 Congressional supporters of the people's interest, not big business, consider making a campaign contribution to them.
