Apparently this article talks about how it is more important to architect your system appropriately regardless of the platform--also insightful.

I couldn't make myself read this thoroughly, but I didn't run across anything saying that you might really want to consider this choice carefully if you think your needs might ever include running your software on an OS not sold by Microsoft. (Please don't tell me about Mono and DotGNU. I know about them. They are interesting. But come on.)
