Trivia time. To whom did President Bush say, "You're good stewards of the quality of the air"?
Um, no. |
Video rental chains are cash cows today. But thanks to developments in technology and marketing, they could become dinosaurs more quickly than many investors believe.
Short answer: Yes.
We haven't gone into a Blockbuster in years. There used to be two right around the corner: one pretty much right across the street from the other. One of those closed last year. For us, NetFlix just makes Blockbuster seem very inconvenient--particularly given the fact that a NetFlix fulfillment center is in a suburb of Atlanta and we get very fast turnaround.
Of course, NetFlix isn't even as convenient as TiVo could be if we could get current movies. If the pay-per-view selection were better, NetFlix would be out, too. (Maybe we'd keep them around for movies that warrant real concern for quality and/or extras [commentary, etc.])
Blockbuster is reported to be considering a merger with Columbia House. Not sure I see how that is going to help. |
