What You Leave Behind

Sometimes the lilting of a lyric is enough to initiate one's thoughts in a great many directions. And so it was with me when I recently heard a new song describing a morale dilemma that many people face, that of death and rememberance. Not exactly the sort of thing most people want to think about especially when listening to a song, but the words made one think about that inevitable event. The song goes through many twists and turns, just as in life and continues to state the obvious, that "...it's not what you take when you leave this world behind you It's what you leave behind you when you go."Stream_Of_Life  And I find that statement to be so very true. Like an everflowing stream, our lives are constantly changing the course that they take. Over rock and sand it spills forth and inundates all that it surrounds engulfing friends and family alike. Often, it etches a path deep, even through the hardest of stone. Sometimes the current is so swift that even we are lost to the whitewater in our own lives. But if we attempt to keep our heads above the flood we can usually navigate towards more peaceful waters. Perhaps, if we are lucky and when our vessel comes to rest, we may look back at our journey and see some trace of our existence...a path for others to follow.

Today's Quote:

Some lives drift here and there like reeds in a stream, depending on changing currents for their activity. Others are like swimmers knowing the depth of the water. Each stroke helps them onward to a definite objective.-Margaret Sanger
