When a president claims God told him to invade Iraq, we know the country is in trouble.
Al Gore: "I came here today because I believe that American democracy is in grave danger. It is no longer possible to ignore the strangeness of our public discourse. I know that I am not the only one who feels that something has gone basically and badly wrong in the way America's fabled 'marketplace of ideas' now functions."
CommonDreams: "Some of the nation's most powerful business groups are splitting with the Bush administration over whether to restrict the anti-terror USA Patriot Act.
The business groups complained to Congress on Wednesday that the Patriot Act makes it too easy for the government to get confidential business records. That put them at odds with one of President Bush's top priorities - the unfettered extension of the law passed after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks."

Expatica: "Foreign Minister Ben Bot was not speaking on behalf of the government when he suggested the US-led invasion of Iraq was a mistake, Prime Minister Jan Peter Balkenende has said."
Dutch cabinets have a history of collaborating with dictatorial regimes, but this Balkenende government takes the biscuit by demanding from Bot a statement that he did not mean it when he spoke the truth about the invasion of Iraq being a mistake. Governing nowadays means lying, cheating and supporting war criminals.
WashingtonPost: "The Senate defied the White House yesterday and voted to set new limits on interrogating detainees in Iraq and elsewhere, underscoring Congress's growing concerns about reports of abuse of suspected terrorists and others in military custody."
DailyStar: "The Senate delivered a stern rebuke to the Bush administration Wednesday night, adding language banning U.S. torture of military prisoners to a $440 billion military spending bill in defiance of a White House threat to veto the whole bill if the anti-torture language was attached."
Although Iraq's Prime Minister denied that Iran is interfering in Iraq's affairs, Tony Blair said new explosive devices used against British troops in Iraq were suspected to have come from 'Iranian elements'.
He is just paving the way for a new war in Iran.
Guardian: "Scott Ritter, the former UN weapons inspector to Iraq and at one time a US marine, warned in apocalyptic terms in London last night of a US-led attack on Iran, writes Ewen MacAskill, diplomatic editor.
Mr Ritter - a high-profile opponent of the war in Iraq - is not resting on his laurels after having accurately predicted that no weapons of mass destruction would be found in Iraq and that US-led forces would be caught in a quagmire.
Speaking in a debate at the ICA about the prospects of military action against Iran, Mr Ritter said preparations were already under way. He said the US was backing Khalq insurgents who are carrying out raids in southern Iraq, and air bases were being readied in Central Asia."

Bush's stooge, Dick Cheney, has upped the ante before Bush's speech by declaring that the US must be prepared to fight the war on terror for decades.
Could anyone present a better case for the failure of American policies?

Extremist right-wing pitbull, Ann Coulter, is lambasting Bush for his nomination of Harriet Miers, a right-wing fundamentalist, as a judge. Does Coulter want a fully-fledged neo-nazi?

The Blade, which had won a Pulitzer Prize for reporting in 2004, discovered that Noe, a Toledo coin dealer, was investing $50 million for the state through the novel practice of coin speculation: buying and selling rare coins to turn a profit. Noe, the Blade revealed, could not account for $10 million to $13 million in the fund."
