Reuters: "Environment group Greenpeace on Thursday began a legal challenge to the British government's bid to push ahead with a new nuclear power program."

NPR: "In Germany, prosecutors have indicated they may soon file charges against CIA officers and contractors in connection with the Khaled el-Masri case.
In Italy, 26 arrest warrants have already been issued in connection with the Abu Omar rendition. And investigations are ongoing in Spain, Switzerland, Brussels, and elsewhere in Europe."

Some governments are increasingly acting as criminal entities and make themselves liable to prosecution. In their turn governments try to criminalize all forms of opposition and try to keep track of their opponents. If they want to silence the truth they can only do that by silencing the opposition.
IHT: "A consortium of major universities, with Homeland Security Department funds, is developing software that would let the government monitor negative opinions of the United States or its leaders in newspapers and other publications overseas."
Stalinism or fascism, anyone?

Protection of the citizen is under constant threat. Under the banner of fighting crime, basic human rights are eroded and the decisions are made without proper democratic consent.

FPIF: "What's going on with the current bustle around U.S. naval stations? According to Time, the Navy has issued 'Prepare to Deploy Orders' (PTDOs) to a strike group including minesweepers, a submarine, an Aegis class cruiser, and a mine hunter. Taken alongside disclosures that the chief of naval operations asked his planners for a rundown of how a blockade of Iranian oil ports would work, these military preparations led Time to conclude cautiously that the United States 'may be preparing for war with Iran'.

Given the ongoing conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan, and the sheer cost of existing military commitments, it would seem that the last thing the United States can afford right now is another war. But as retired Air Force Colonel Sam Gardiner observes, the Bush administration didn't apply the 'making sense' filter over the past four years in Iraq. It is therefore unlikely to use common sense in evaluating whether to attack Iran.
The U.S. military does not believe that air strikes on Iran are either workable or advisable, and, as noted above, an attack would not likely hit all major Iranian nuclear sites since U.S. intelligence doesn't know where they are."

The number of flat daddies and mommies only increases with each further deployment.

We should support all refuseniks.
Ynetnews: "The group of youths that signed a letter two weeks ago refusing to be soldiers of the occupation hung banners saying the same from Tel Aviv highway bridges Thursday."
