AbuAardvark: "Last week, al-Arabiya director Abd al-Rahman al-Rashed praised Bahrain for eliminating electronic voting for elections scheduled for November and December of this year. The King intervened in the face of opposition complaints that electronic voting machines could be manipulated to corrupt the electoral process (as one put it, 'the system has security vulnerabilities that would allow hackers and others users to jeopardise voter privacy and alter votes'). According to Rashed, the King considered it essential in order to maintain the faith of voters in the political system."

When even in Bahrain they have eliminated electronic voting machines from the voting process, why does Dutch PM Balkenende, after several reports of gross vulnerabilities in the Dutch voting machines, refuse to consider an other voting system?

HollandSentinel: "Britain is atwitter over a row between Prince Harry and his military unit, which has banned him from combat in Afghanistan. Prince Harry is said to be furious with the decision and has threatened to quit the military if it follows through.

Good for Prince Harry; that's the sort of mettle all would-be leaders (even titular leaders) should demonstrate. We'd like to see him serve in Afghanistan - not because of any desire to see the prince come to any harm, but because with such a famous person in Afghanistan perhaps that conflict would get the attention and the troops it deserves."

Well, the powers that be are very sensible about that combat ban for Harry. They know it is dangerous, even if you don't get hurt. The chances of returning home with DU contamination are great. Moreover, Harry is a right-wing (remember his Nazi outfit?) twit.

This is the reality:
DearKitty: "A Dutch sergeant in Uruzgan [in Afghanistan] has killed himself."
Apart from this site this suicide was not mentioned in any other news outlet. The Dutch government keeps a close watch over the national media.

There's more news that is kept more or less under the hat:
Leninology: "Police officers raided a home in Lancashire on Monday night and uncovered a huge cache of chemicals used to make explosives. Officers say it is the largest haul of such chemicals ever found in this country. One man has already appeared in front of Burnley magistrates charged under the Explosives Substances Act 1883. Another man has also been charged after a raid on his house uncovered rocket launcher and a nuclear biological suit.

You'd have thought this would be national front page news, wouldn't you? After all the hype, at last we have solid evidence of terrorists attempting to perpetrate a murderous outrage on the population - prosecutors say the pair had 'some kind of master plan'.
Except, of course, that the men charged are not Asian Islamists, but white fascists."

Also the existence of a new European secret service, Alliance Base, closely linked to the CIA and the secret renditions and detention sites in Europe, does not get much publicity.

Of the total 655,000 estimated 'excess deaths' 601,000 resulted from violence and the rest from disease and other causes, according to the study. This is about 500 unexpected violent deaths per day throughout the country."
