CommonDreams: "Internal military documents released Thursday provided new details about the Defense Department's collection of information on demonstrations nationwide last year by students, Quakers and others opposed to the Iraq war."

BBC: "A judge has criticised the Home Office over contradictory MI5 intelligence in secret hearings involving two terrorism suspects, it has emerged.
The error came to light only because one barrister acted in both Special Immigration Appeals Commission cases.
Mr Justice Newman said the administration of justice had been put at risk in the cases of Algerian Abu Doha and a suspect known as MK.
But after MK's case had finished it became clear that the evidence against him was being contradicted by that in the Abu Doha hearings."

SydneyMorningHerald: "Up to 16 key AWB [International Ltd] figures may face criminal charges over the Iraq kickbacks scandal if the commissioner, Terence Cole, accepts confidential recommendations put to him by senior counsel assisting his inquiry."

AlterNet: "According to Steve Benen, a damning new book [Tempting Faith] by David Kuo - former high-ranking official in Bush's Office of Faith-Based Initiatives - reveals that Bush's plan for social betterment through the religious community 'was a charade', and 'a political ploy'.

'National Christian leaders received hugs and smiles in person and then were dismissed behind their backs and described as ridiculous, out of control, and just plain goofy,' Kuo wrote. He added that Karl Rove called some of the nation's most prominent evangelical leaders 'the nuts'."

CBSNews: "Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist's AIDS charity paid nearly a half-million dollars in consulting fees to members of his political inner circle, according to tax returns providing the first financial accounting of the presidential hopeful's nonprofit."

ICH: "At an October 11, 2006 Debate at Congregation B'nai Israel in Bridgeport, CT, Chris Shays [yes indeed, a Republican] states that what happened in Abu Ghraib was a sex ring, not torture."
