(US) We are seeking a highly motivated and dedicated scientist for our exciting biotech client. This person will be responsible for computational analysis of experimental microarray data, for the integration of results with other proprietary and publicly available data, for the design and implementation of the high throughput systems for genomic and metabolic pathway discovery. The candidate should have a PhD in computer science, physics or biology and a solid background in algorithm development and statistics. Extensive experience of experimental data analysis and proficiency in UNIX, databases and programming are also wanted.
(US) The Protein Information Resource (PIR) is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow who is interested in starting a career in computational biology (bioinformatics) and participate in the development of the UniProt project. UniProt is a central database of protein sequence and function created by joining the information contained in Swiss-Prot, TrEMBL, and PIR. PIR is a public resource of protein informatics, providing functionally annotated and value-added protein databases as well as bioinformatics tools to support genomic and proteomic research and knowledge discovery. Research area: * Evolutionary studies of conserved protein families. * Classification of these proteins into families and sub-families and determining the phyletic distribution of the proteins to investigate origin of these protein families. * Annotation of functional information on protein sequences. Requirements: * The applicants should have a Ph.D. degree in any of the following disciplines: microbiology, biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, or other related biological sciences. Ability to work independently and a strong publication record is essential. * Detail-oriented and thorough * Basic computer skills, excellent analytical skills * Good communication skills and team player * Experience in protein structure and sequence analysis, protein evolution, protein classification and experience in multiple sequence alignment editing preferred but not required.
