Avril And Me
I was open for suggestions on which songs we could use in class tomorrow for the semi-regular music analysis exercises that my Pre-AP classes engage in, when to my absolute horror, several students suggested that I use an Avril Lavigne song. Specifically "Things I'll Never Say" was the one most offered up. Little did my pupils know that I abhor that song. If you want to know just how much I hate "Things I'll Never Say", then click my young apprentice!

By the way, if you think I'm alone in my Avril-less world, here are a few sites easily found on the internet that spell out in more detail just what isn't right about that girl:
Oh, and for the record, Avril has no clue about David Bowie. Here's what another website had to say about her screwing up his name at the Grammy nomination ceremony:
Avril Lavigne flubs at Grammy noms
At Madison Square Garden to help announce the Gramny nominations for best male rock vocal performance, Avril Lavigne pronounced David Bowie's last name to rhyme with "Howie."
The 18-year-old Canadian singer received five Grammy noms of her own, including best new artist and song of the year for "Complicated."
A reporter pointed out her mistake, and Lavigne -- obviously not a David Bowie fan -- said, "Oops! I knew that was going to happen, I knew I was going to pronounce someone's name wrong."
Perhaps she's never heard of Bowie, a veteran in the music industry, or perhaps she has pronunciation problems. That would explain the spelling of the title of her song "Sk8r Boi" -- we thought she was just trying to be cute.
