The White Stuff
This has been a relatively mild winter here in Germany, at least in my non-native, non-expert opinion. I mean, I haven't had to tunnel through the snow to get out my front door or anything.
The last couple of days, though, there's been a significant amount of snow coming down. My first real hint of it was this morning as I left for work. Didn't seem too bad at first, but once I started heading north toward Baumholder on the autobahn, the left lane started icing up and soon I was stuck in a line of cars crawling along on the right side trying to keep to the two ruts we were making in the snow and ice. The drive, which normally takes about thirty minutes ballooned into a one hour, white-knuckle fest.
When I made it back tonight, it was still snowing. I could tell some of the snow from the morning had melted away during the day as the temps managed to get a bit above freezing, but a fresh batch was coming down to replace all that.
Here are a few pics so you can see what I'm talking about:
As you can tell, plenty of unshoveled snow in front of my house. It'll stay that way until the stuff stops coming down. I'm in no hurry to shovel and watch my efforts be erased in twenty minutes. That might piss off the neighbors, but oh well.
