Fishing Man
Not the only purpose, but certainly the highest priority, for my vacation was to fish. Late Thursday, in the middle of a jewel of a high mountain lake, somewhere in the middle of Idaho, surrounded my pine forests and craggy peaked mountains Mikey and I decided that the vacation was over. We were satiated. We'd basically fished our brains out and we were done.
We slowly paddled back to shore and on what should have been his last cast Mikey caught another fish. I got out but he had to make just one more pass at that lake. Such is the nature of fishing man.
Running the numbers:
4 days fishing, (at least 36 hours on the water)
Fish totals
Mikey: More than he could count.
Jim: About half of that.
Kept: Zero
Killed: Zero
Lakes: 4
Streams: 1
Flys: Sheep Creek (peacock body), Mikey's candy, black candy, black bunny leech, green bunny leech, Orange Hopper (Mikey's), PMD (mine), Royal Wulff and BWO. These all worked. The dry flys were used exclusively on the stream.
We fished a different lake every morning. Our longest hike was 2 miles (4 round trip). Our shortest hike was on Thursday and was less than a half mile one way. The walk was a bit more difficult because we took in float tubes, fins, etc.
I'm still trying to decide if I want to give out the names. It's an area that we like to keep to ourselves and I don't know how Mikey would feel about naming names. After all, he's the one who introduced me to the area. On the other hand, the are just north of McCall is filled with great trails, wonderful scenery and many mountain lakes. You can hardly go wrong by just showing up.
So, I'll think about it. And if you are really interested just get back to me. I'd be happy to tell.
Mostly, it was a great week to get away. I didn't think about technology, unless you include the kind that goes into making a better fly rod. I'm a bit sad after leaving the mountains. Still, it's good to be home...........
