S-P-R
Mike Vance has an exercise that he labels S-P-R. It stands for:
Stimulus - Pause - Response
Mike also says that the quality of the response is determined by the quality of the pause. That doesn't necessarily mean that the pause has to be prolonged. It just has to be. It's something that I've struggled to master. And something that seems to be either misunderstood or never considered. I don't have any idea which it is.
I've experienced over long years in American business that there is a propensity to respond immediately. The quality of the pause is seldom addressed. Another way of looking at this is a statement that I heard years ago and think of often:
Less is more.
I probably don't understand all I should/can about this statement. I am beginning to get it. Less in amount of responses usually equates into more as far as the quality of response is concerned.
I'm thinking lately about S-P-R and focusing on the P (pause) in this formula.........
