URTA
When I interviewed for my job at UEN on of the tough questions was regarding my ability to work with the Rural Telephone companies in Utah. I assured the interviewers (we were in a packed conference room with about 10 of us, one interviewee and the rest interviewers). I assured all of them that I didn't have any problem working with vendors. There were a few stiffled laughs.
Upon starting my job, my new boss reminded me of my commitment to work with the rural telcos. I admit that this was a bit intimidating. But I moved forward. It hasn't been all fun and games. I've had a few missteps. And made my share of mistakes.
But all-in-all, the experience has been positive. I've learned to appreciate their good nature and with all sides working at bettering the relationship we have made some great strides. I will always be grateful for UBTA. They made the commitment to install Ethernet links, of the gigabit variety, and made good on that commitment. I believe that it was their vision and leadership that allowed others to take similar steps.
I've also learned to appreciate each of these companies and the people that work for them. I believe that they are serious business people and are doing a lot of good in the communities they serve. It has been fun and interesting to develop these relationships.
For the next couple of days I am attending the annual URTA conference in St. George, Utah. It is nice to reconnect with my rural friends. Oh, and the sunshine isn't bad either......
