Spam may be getting ever-worse, but some things are improving. The "Do Not Call" lists--I've used them in Indiana and now in Minnesota--seem to work very well. I even put our cell phone numbers on the list. Now the next step is posting the "No beggars or peddlers" sign the Woodbury police department distrbibutes!

UPDATE: Now there is a national Do Not Call list.

It's annoying, but restricting "printer-friendly" versions of stories to paying subscribers seems like a fair business tactic for web content publishers. It doesn't get in the way of search engines or deep linking, but it does still provide some incentive--albeit most likely slight and insufficient--for readers to pay for content.
