So I have a racoon issue, he's very cute when he's alone and I'm totally ok with him coming in but when he brings his brothers and sisters and the whole gang and they fight over food which isn't theirs to begin with then I'm not ok with it. Or if they go further than the kitchen down to the bedroom for the food and eat all the food, drink all the water and then my cats don't have any food til I get home - not ok with that either. I've had to start locking my cats in at night so the racoons don't get in.

What I need is a cat door that is racoon proof because I don't mind the other neighborhood cats coming in and my cats won't wear collars so all cat doors that are activated by magnets or sensors worn around the cat collar aren't going to help one bit if the cats won't wear collars and poor orange kitty wouldn't be able to get in and sleep somewhere warm (orange kitty is a sweet neighborhood cat that comes into to sleep at night)

So here is where I need some help, I was thinking about creating a sliding cat door that is based on a paw print reader/scanner from the outside or inside that will open the door if it sees a paw print because other animals such as raccoons paws are very different in form - so if my cats or a neighbor cat steps on this paw scanner of sorts, the door will open. There are sliding powered cat doors out there but they are based on a magnet on the collar. I need some help with the paw scanner thingy - my electrical knowledge is not all that great but I'm thinking there is someone out there that can help?

Who is up for a challenge? I want to create a cat paw print scanner/reader to activate a sliding cat door.

I work for this one client that has an employee that is all about being green, recycling and saving the enviroment which is a good thing but if you're going to say things, follow through. Last night we were going to throw out peanuts that came in a box and he said "oh, could we take those to a packaging place to recycle them?" Instead of saying it, take the bags, follow through - seriously, if you want to recycle and save the enviroment, take action and do it, don't just say it.

He said that he prefer cardboard filing boxes to plastic boxes. I'm all for recycling and being green but honestly I'd rather use a plastic file box rather than a cardboard box that's going to eventually fall apart because its moved to much or has too much weight placed on it, a plastic box will last forever and the cardboard boxes that fall apart and have to be replaced - first where do the boxes end up - landfill. How do they made the next set of boxes, trees. Buy plastic once - no recycling, you'll keep them.

Enough of my ranting about recycling.
