it seems that I blog like once a week these days, its not that I have no thoughts roaming around in my head just not enough time to sit down and process it all out..
I broke a pink frosted glass vase in my bathroom tuesday morning and I thought I had gotten all the slivers and pieces up but of course not because that is not how my day was shaping up to be an easy carefree day. As soon as I shut down my computer and in the midst of trying to put my bra on right (yes, that seems to be a struggle lately, I never get it right), a client calls and said she was faxing something to me and needed my help, so of course, I told her I'd check in out in a few minutes and get back to her. I thought I'd at least finish getting dressed and off to the bathroom I go and wouldn't you know it, I stepped on a piece of glass and son of a bitch it hurt and my client was calling and then someone else called, damn just leave me alone for a few minutes..and i guess it went in pretty far because as soon as I sat down to see where it went, my foot started dripping blood.
I have had nails go into my feet and that was nothing compared to the pain this little tiny piece of glass was causing. I tried to pull it out while trying not to drip blood through the house and I probably pushed it in further causing more pain. I finally decided to just email my client, tell her I got the fax and I had an emergency that I need to take care of. I wrapped up my foot in a bandage and wiggled on a shoe and walked around the house on my tipping toes. One of my concerns was that I did not want the cats to get glass in their paws, so first I cleaned up the bathroom and the rugs and made sure all the glass was gone (in retrospect using my hands to feel for glass probably wasn't the smartest choice).
Then I called the doctor's office and the phone just rang and rang and rang..some doctor's office, its suppose to be urgent care. Screw it, I'll just drive over there. When I got there, I saw my doctor walking out. Oh well, this is urgent care, someone should be able to get this damn piece glass out of my phone...not the case, they had me wait 30 minutes just to tell me they didn't have the equipment for this type of emergency and I should go to the emergency room. So here I am waiting and waiting, my foot is bleeding, I'm in pain and they can't help.
So off I go to Concord Mt Diablo Emergency Care and waited for an hour before I asked the security guard if she thought I'd get better treatment at John Muir Hospital or at least get triage before I turned gray. She said probably but it was so far away - Concord to Walnut Creek - 5 minute drive..mind you I've now had this glass in my foot about 2 hours and my foot is bleeding not a little, alot.
Pissed off, I leave Concord Mt Diablo Emergency Care and head over to John Muir in Walnut Creek and remembered that I have a podiarist, granted I haven't seen him a few years but he's still my doctor, so why not see if he can help, I'd probably get seen sooner and he's right across the street from John Muir anyways, if he can't help, then I'll go across the street.
Yes, he's available and I only had to wait 30 minutes because I wasn't a schedule client but I trust him, so I waited. In the course of him surgically removing the glass from my foot, he asked me what color the glass was, I told him it was pink. He joked and told me he wished it was blue, it would be easier to find. Pink glass and blood mixed, hard to find, he had to removed it by feeling for it. He pulled out two tiny tiny little pieces of pink frosted glass. He also told me to never do that again. I have a checkup in a week to make sure its healing right and that he got all the glass out.
Moral of this story - there's a couple:
don't go to Concord Mt Diablo Emergency Care, I felt like a second class citizen when I walked in there. They assume you don't have medical coverage, so they take their time treating you or at least that's how I felt
Concord Urgent Care - might be a great place to know about if you have a minor problem such as when my tattoo got infected but as a place for doctor, I'm not really sure about that anymore, if my doctor only works part-time, then I get screwed if I need to see a doctor? And why the hell don't they answer their phones or at least put an answering machine on when they're not available. I have other issues with the doctor too but that another story.
I need to find another family practice doctor somewhere in Walnut Creek, someone that is available during the day when I have an urgent issue
