ISKME: Knowledge Management in Education: Defining the Landscape
"This monograph describes the opportunities and challenges faced by those working to improve the use and sharing of information in education through practices that have come to be known as knowledge management." [elearningpost]

Big .pdf but initially looks like it's worth a read!

Weblogs, egos, community and motivation...

Promoting one's blog. Promoting One's Blog via Roland Tanglao This is an important concern for many bloggers. Most edubloggers blog (I think) largely... [elearnspace blog]

Nope, I think it's bigger than that. There's a lot of 'ego' in weblogging (i.e. getting noticed, other people reading what you write, people agreeing with you) and I reckon that this has big implications for not only the use of weblogs by, say, an 'academic community' but also within mainstream education. If no-one's listening then why the diddley-heck would you write?

Same problem with 'reflection' in tertiary ed. Only the keenest reflect if no-one's going to read it some reflect if, for example, the course tutor is going to read it but lots reflect if the whole class is going to read it!

So, to have your content aggregated onto a course weblog, to have links automatically constructed within course weblogs & possibly in your classmates course weblogs, to set up activities which involve reading and reflecting on each others postings (as I'm doing here, in a way - socially constructed knowledge!)... well, I reckon that's going to kick ass compared to "Here's your notebook/essay topic/weblog, here's your topics, go away and write, give it to me in 2 months, I'll give you 58% like everyone else" :o)

Refining an earlier post, purpose + audience = motivation... howabout:

COMMUNITY = Motivation
