Difference between weblogs and discussion forums. Biggest difference I've noticed: blogs have a natural filtering process. Good ideas spread as they are filtered through various blogs. [elearnspace blog]

Excellent diagram here! There are so many variables though... adding in email, authenticated vs. non-authenticated, various DB styles & approaches, various weblog styles & approaches... to name just a few! I think the 'filtering' bit above is spot on though... although whether it's what marks blogs out the most???

An old idea I want & a new idea that probably isn't new

OK, so why doesn't radio (or most other weblogs / systems) have the 'Receive email updates to this page' option.... it'd be soooooooooo useful to have as part of the 'discussion' bits at the bottom of this page. I mean, Randy posts an interesting comment half-way down the page and then has to revisit the item regularly to see if anyone responds...

Also, I want notification of any new comments (or ones made in the last 24 hrs) at the top of the page!

And hey, while I'm at it... discussion boards are great at saving you from the sheaths of email that often accompany a listserv, you can save yourself on a listserv by getting the digest, why can't you save yourself the bother of visiting a discussion every day to see if anything's been added (IMO this is a painful process & one that turns many teachers & students off virtual communities based on DBs)... why can't you have a 'Discussion Board E-Mail Digest'?

Even better, why don't you make it like 'Watch that page' (the annoying eye on the right hand side) so that you can have a digest of digests.

I think a lot of people undervalue email.

The elearning guild looks like a cool resource... makes me sad tho' that it's all pay-per-view.

Knowing what we know: Supporting knowledge creation and sharing in social networks by Rob Cross, Andrew Parker, Laurence Prusak and Stephen P. Borgatti and earlier white paper with the same title. [Mathemagenic]

The adoption of elearning, knowledge management, communities of practice, etc. is fundamentally a change management issue. Here's a nice resource: Change Management 101 [elearnspace blog]

Feeling lazy today :o)
