Alternative Christmas Presents
We're doing Christmas a different way this year with my family. Instead of getting each other stuff we don't need or want, we donating to a charity on behalf of the other person.
For instance, we are donating money to the Universal Healthcare Action Network (UHCAN) of Ohio on behalf of my parents and my sister. This is a non-profit that is dedicated to providing healthcare to all Ohioans regardless of income.
My parents donated money to the Kelowna Gospel Mission on our behalf. They care for the hungry, hurting and homeless of Kelowna, British Columbia.
I don't exactly know what my sister is doing yet. It's something to do with bears and tigers, so I assume she is donating to a local zoo on our behalf.
This was a great experience. I don't really see the downside. The charities benefit, we don't have useless stuff lying around after Christmas, and we all get a nice gift card that says "A donation was made on your behalf" that we can keep. I love it.
