Everything's a Paradox
I'm coming to believe that everything in life is a paradox. The person you love the most is often the person you hate most often. Starting a small business is a way to make a lot of money, but when you are beginning it you'd better be prepared to live poor for a while.
The same is true for the emergence of holistic health in America. There is no doubt that the holistic trend is growing and accelerating. People who had never heard of the word "reiki" are now asking me where they can find a good practitioner. The studies being done are showing that more than half of all Americans, rich and poor, red state and blue state, are using holistic health services regularly. Yoga has taken off like crazy. Chiropractors are busy day after day. Even one of my favorite doctors who does acupuncture and osteopathy, and who used to struggle to put together a week of clients, now is busier than he can handle.
But, in the face of all this, the medical boards are pushing back. A naturopath in Toledo, Ohio was raided and his office torn apart by government terrorists wearing gas masks. (Yes, gas masks.) They also had their guns drawn, which sent his receptionist for a loop, you can imagine.
There are several other Ohio practitioners who've been warned that I've heard of. The boards are doing a full-court press, kind of a last desperate breath. It's interesting because we are putting legislation through at the state level that will remove all holistic health practitioners from the jurisdiction of these boards, particularly the chiropractic board, dietetics board and massage therapy advisory committee. The law should be passed within the next 1-2 years. And none too early for our practitioners...
