David Hoggard's take on local politics and life in general from Greensboro, NC

I'll be back tomorrow, but in the meantime, keep those cards and letters coming if you want to be part of a mini-blogging conference on August 28th here in Greensboro.  Sign up here.

Cone has secured the considerable expertise of on-line campaign guru Mat Gross, recently of Howard Dean fame.  That alone is worth the price of admission - which (so far) is zilch.  John Hood and others are mulling it over.

We are hoping to corral a bunch of local candidates and elected officials who understand, or want to understand, the possibilities a weblog might offer their campaigns or elected office.  Thigpen is in and last night Commissioner Mike Barber indicated he will attend.

Best I can tell from responses, we are a party of 20 so far.

We are leaving today for Knoxville, I've got an appointment to sing Amazing Grace for an old friend on the occasion of his funeral.

Few of you knew my great friend Terry Cayton, and you are poorer for it.  Sensing his demise, I traveled to see him a couple of weeks ago.  I kissed him... told him I loved him... then came home and waited for the phone call which his wife Mary delivered two nights ago.

Terry's epitaph: A man of music - a gentle soul.
