David Hoggard's take on local politics and life in general from Greensboro, NC

A few weeks ago, I wondered what was up with Wendover Avenue  It has been rough as a cob for weeks-on-end due to curb grinding and foot-tall-manhole-cover-raising proceedures in preparation (hopefully) for re-surfacing.  It seems to me that the City of Greensboro contracted with a crew that is more familiar with building motocross courses than city streets.

N&R reporter Matt Williams gave me the answer to the never-ending gauntlet when we spoke during the recent Piedmont Blogger Conference.  He intimated that such information would be fodder for the N&R's new Inside Scoop weblog that was launched last week.

Matt came through.

The $300,000 that Assistant City Manager Mitch Johnson says was saved for Greensboro's taxpayers has probably been negated by now, however... in ruined suspension systems, coffee stained clothing, bent wheels, bad feelings toward GDOT and frayed nerves.  But thanks for thinking of us.  Next time... think again.

We still don't know when the projects will finally be completed unless Williams has possesion of another memo from the City.  Matt?

I am going in to stealth mode.  As stated in my post a couple of days ago, my public life has dominated my time for a while now but I find that I must shift gears- but this is a good thing.

Today, I start juggling two major window restoration projects while finalizing the details of another HUGE one in Charlotte beginning November.  I find that the time has come to go big or stay at home with my fledgling start-up "Double Hung - Historic Window Restoration"... and I choose to go big (or what passes as such).

I have discovered, much to my pleasure and good fortune - that I have hit upon a service that is much needed in the building/preservation industry.  As the saying goes: "In the land of the blind... the one-eyed man is king"... so I need to get to it - I possess the only functioning eye for miles around.  Investors are welcome.

Additional employees are in my immediate future along with obtaining all of the trappings of a real business such as: worker's comp insurance, general liability protection, licensing, another friggin' checking account, actually following up on every phone inquiry... you know... basic business stuff.  I can't fake it any longer.

The Charlotte job is especially daunting.  At over three month's duration - scheduling, planning, bidding, juggling... its more than my feeble mind is used to, so something has to give.

So... don't hit "refresh" on your browser more than once per day for a while because not much will go on here.  I am sure things will pop up during the early and late hours of the day... but mainly I will relegate myself to the role of commenter... not discussion leader... until further notice.

Now, about that Greensboro Coliseum deficit.......
