Look at what all The Shu found... I had no idea.

The school board race between Kris Cooke and Bill Davidson is heating up a bit.  I received notice of three events over the last few days that involve their race.

Two Art Chicks and the Greater Greensboro Observer held a candidate forum this past Thursday.  I was unable to attend but inquired as to how those two candidates performed before a neutral crowd.  I discovered that incumbent Kris Cooke was unable to attend because of a conflict - there was a School Board meeting during that time.  Her son Alan attended and read a statement in her stead.  Candidate Bill Davidson did not attend so I guess we have to give Cooke the advantage in that one.

Last night, I received the following notice that was issued to ABC of Guilford County's email distribution list.  I am unsure how large that list is, but the group claims that over 1,000 folks have signed up through their website.

IMMEDIATE ACTION REQUIRED - District #7 "Walk-a-Thon"

Tomorrow morning, Saturday, September 25, at 9:00AM, huge numbers of parents, taxpayers and voters will converge on District #7 to campaign for Bill Davidson. We will be meeting at General Greene Elementary School at 9:00AM to receive instructions and coaching from the campaign prior to disbursing ourselves throughout neighborhoods in the district.

...One of ABC of Guilford County's chief objectives is to help seat a new school board in order to achieve more community support in, and for, our schools. This clearly can be accomplished only be replacing sitting board members.

I was headed to Lowes this morning and drove by General Greene to see how the Davidson Walk-a-Thon was going.  "Huge number of parents, taxpayers and voters" must have had other things to do this morning.  I counted seven cars and ten or twelve folks incuding the candidate.  I recognized  most of the Walk-a-Thon'ers as being High Point residents and/or ABC stalwarts.

Cooke has been running a non-confrontational and low-key campaign so far, but that may be changing.  I have been noticing her yard signs are popping up all over the place.  Unlike the preponderance of her opponent's signs, they are actually in people's yards and not on vacant lots and public rights-of-way.

As another indication of Cooke's gear-changing, I received a notice that a "Meet the Candidate" event will be held for Cooke next Thursday, September 30 at the Lake Jeanette Clubhouse (7:00p).  In my opinion, campaigning is much more effective when it is carried out by folks who can actually vote for the candidate.  I don't live in District 7 either, but it looks like Cooke's supporters are rallying.

Update: District 7 County Commissioner Candidate James R. (Jim) Capo (L) was one of the folks at the Davidson Walk-a-Thon and filed a post about it on his campaign blog.

Apparently the event turned into a Davidson Disclose-a-Thon.  Jim reports that Bill brought along his GCS personnel file that the candidate offered to make public according to an article in last week's Rhino.

Jim is convinced that he has put to rest a "conspiracy theory": "Unfortunately, for those desirous of one in Mr. Davidson's employment history I have to disappoint here... (t)he records I saw first hand do not support the implied allegations that the school system somehow pushed Mr. Davidson out of a job."

Verdict:Clean     Surprise factor:Zero   If a candidate publicly offers to make his entire here-to-for confidential personel file available to the press, you can bet your sweet bippy nothing bad will be in what is released.

Keep digging, Jim.

I'm playing with Radio this weekend to make it load faster.  How am I doing so far?

I think the problem is with my images.  Roch, are you drinking beer this weekend?
