David Hoggard's take on local politics and life in general from Greensboro, NC

I was going to post additional thoughts and obsevations about Monday's ABC of Guilford County meeting, but this morning's Rhino did it for me.  Go out and get a copy because reporter Lauren Slocum seemingly ghost wrote my take in my stead.  The article entitled "Davidson Rally Draws Cooke Supporters" covers everthing that I was going to say.  I will link to it once it is available online... sometime in December.

I do have one thing to add to take the story a little further, however...

Last month I made some observations on the District 7 School Board race.  Upon perusing Bill Davidson's website, I noticed that he had resigned from Page High School in January.  Thinking that a little strange I asked some Page employees and acquaintances about what they knew regarding Davidson's resignation.  My account of what I had learned up until that time is here.

In a comment to that post, Davidson took exception to my timeline leading up to his departure from Page and accused me of publishing a "blatant mistruth".  Not being one to knowingly spread "blatant mistruths" I replied to his comment for clarification and got this comment in return.

"...If you did indeed speak with teachers at Page, you were misinformed...if you didn't then you simply made something up and attempted to post it as truth. Bad form either way..."

After this accusatory exchange, I contacted Bill via email and asked him to explain the circumstances surrounding his resignation from Page in his own words.  Davidson sent me his written response on 9/13/04.

"Electrical contracting had been the perfect part-time job to go along with teaching...." Read the whole thing

I have also made some inquiries to get "the other side of the story" which I am still attempting to verify.  In the Rhino article, reporter Slocum alludes some similar things I have heard about Davidson's tenure at Page.  She also alludes to rumors surrounding his deaprture from the school when she says," Some rumors have circulated that he was fired, but Davidson said he resigned to pursue a business."  Actually, I have never heard any rumor that he was fired, my information is that he actually did resign... but perhaps under duress.

From my information, this duress could have come in the form of a probationary and corrective Action Plan (via GCS website).  Wondering if this rumor was true, I sent another question off to Davidson on Monday night:

"Because you state your main qualification for serving on the Board is your teaching experience, I'm sure you'll agree that the voters are entitled to know how you conducted yourself as an educator and, by extension, how your employment might translate to dealing with teachers, administrators and parents if you are elected....

Were you ever under an Action Plan or other probationary program at Page prior to your resignation?"

In his response, he said he has not...

"I disagree with your premise in your first paragraph, but, no, never been under anything you mentioned."

Fair enough... and to help put the matter ro rest, today's Rhino quotes Davidson as being confident that his personel file is above reproach.  So confident in fact, he is going to make the file's here-to-for confidential contents available for inspection.  The article quotes Davidson as saying, "I will make my personnel file wide open for anyone who wants to see it."  It was further reported that he has ordered a copy of his file and is waiting for GCS to provide it to him so it can be dissiminated freely, presumably to all interested parties.

I'm sure that Slocum at the Rhino will want to see the file, I will request a copy of it, too.  As a matter of fact... since Bill is a regular reader of this blog, I just did.  OK, Bill?

**************

Related: At the ABC meeting Monday when the group's newly designed website was unvieled, someone in the room asked, "You aren't shutting down the ABC discussion forum, are you?"  The response was "no".  As a matter of fact, Director Michael Murphree joked that yours truly should start moderating the site.

The Yahoo group normally has ten or so posts per day and discussion can get quite spirited.  However, I check the forum everyday and not a single post has gone up over there since 9/12.  Further softening?
