David Hoggard's take on local politics and life in general from Greensboro, NC

Despite Greensboro's recent notoriety for being one of the most web savvy cities in the U.S., an extensive web search to compile the online efforts of candidates signed up for the upcoming City Council primary election reveals a sad state of online affairs hereabouts.

A total of 22 candidates have thrown their hats into the ring to be one of the nine people who would lead our city, but only half of them have even bothered to put up a rudimentary website or a simple weblog to let citizens know what they are all about.  But its really worse than that, because, of the eleven candidates found to have an online presence, three of them have either let their sites expire or have chosen not to update them for many months.  (Namely - District 1 candidate Mike Barber (who's site shows him still running for County Commissioner), at-large incumbent Yvonne Johnson, and District 2 newcomer Lewis Byers.)

With a scant three weeks to go before we are to whittle a crowded field of candidates down to those who will appear on the general ballot in November, we should urge every candidate to at least provide us with some simple contact information and the basics of how they might approach the job of leading our city.  To do otherwise is considered by this voter as akin to either saying either, "... you don't need to know anymore about me nor what I stand for" or "I don't understand computers and the web... they are a passing fad anyway."

Well, yes I do and no they aren't... and I won't support you or vote for you unless you take me seriously.

It is my intention to update my list of candidate websites and weblogs as the local campaign season progresses.  If I have missed any candidate's online efforts please send me an email or enter it in a comment below.  I will add the information as it becomes available and let my readers know about any additions.  The list will appear below "What's Up With Jinni" in the right hand column until the election is decided.
