Soon enough, posts like this one will seem quaint... but to me it is still worth noting when things written by bloggers get picked up by our newspaper of record.
In what I believe to be a first, an article in the N&R gave credit to a local weblogger for providing a story idea that made the print edition. (Even though they admit having done it several times in the past) Reporter Eric Townsend gave a tip of his hat to Ben Holder for being the first to report on all of that Viagra that was (almost) stolen from a storage unit when he included this line toward the end of the N&R story on the subject... "The weekend theft was first reported late Monday on a blog entry by community activist Ben Holder. "
The N&R's editorial department continued mining local blogs for excellent observations when they quoted Seymour's Purple Mind this morning. Hardy put up an analysis of what he hopes Commissioner Skip Alston will take away from Saturday's failed re-election bid for the presidency of the NC NAACP. The ed page feature called "Mixing it up" pulled and printed part of the post, starting with... "With Alston's defeat, I'm now pulling for Alston. I'm pulling for him to become the leader he could be for our entire community. I am hoping that Alston will use this loss as a springboard for his own efforts at self-improvement..."
