David Hoggard's take on local politics and life in general from Greensboro, NC

Saturday, October 29, 2005

I forget that not every local blog reader knows about Greensboro101.  But if you don't check that site daily, you are missing out on some great stuff.

The latest roundup of what is being posted on participating blogs can be found with a simple click of the mouse which takes you here.  In addition, Greensboro101's editorial board elevates certain posts of local interest to the site's front page.  They provide news and commentary in a central location that cannot be found anywhere else. This page is updated throughout the day.

But lately, Roch has been performing an important public service exclusive of the blogs that are aggregated on his site

During last month's Greensboro101-sponsored at-large candidate forum, Roch Smith, Jr. recorded the whole affair.  He has since transcribed the answers to the excellent and probing questions.  Over the past weeks, Roch has been posting the candidate's responses.  The whole series can be found here.

According to the N&R, rapper The Game was arrested at Four Season's yesterday.  The article says, "...the arrest stemmed from a confrontation that began when Taylor was asked to remove a Halloween mask he was wearing. According to the warrant, Taylor walked away from a police officer while being placed under arrest and said, 'You ain’t gonna take me in.'  He also used obscenities, according to the warrant."

According to Our World, Our View, The Game, "later issued a statement saying that he was arrested because of police brutality."

I've never heard of a citizen getting arrested for police brutality - this could be a first.

Released yesterday, the Elon University Poll shows: "Fifty-six percent... disapproved or strongly disapproved of the president's handling of the war in Iraq, while 41 percent approved or strongly approved.

The AP's analysis (unposted - via N&R print) of the Elon poll shows: "More than half... - 51 percent - said they did not know if the war was worth fighting, while 19 percent said the war was worth it and 29 percent said it was not."

Nothing real surprising here... until you look at what part of North Carolina's population to which they are referring:  Current and former members of the military.

Says Elon director Hunter Bacot... "We see that those most involved in the Iraq situation, the military, are not so different from the general public after all and share the same concerns about Iraq.  Conventional wisdom might suggest that the military would be more supportive of Bush in Iraq, but that simply isn't the case if you look at the numbers."
