David Hoggard's take on local politics and life in general from Greensboro, NC

The Greensboro Troublemaker is not through with St. James Homes.  He has documents showing it took city inspectors 22 days to inspect all the stairs at the beleaguered apartments on S. Eugene.  An inspection for the whole complex was requested by the Greensboro Fire Department on 9/25 after they had responded to injuries resulting from the now-famous stair collapse incident at the Skip Alston managed complex.

The inspections of the rest of the staircases didn't begin until October 16th despite pleadings from fire battalion chief Whitworth....

"The vital concern here is the safety of our personnel. In the event one of these units has an emergency, fire personnel will need to employ extreme caution when operating in these units."

Update and piling on: ... citing last night's pitiful "dependable local coverage" of the extraordinary electorial upsets and changes for Greensboro's City Council, Mr. Sun announces:  "...WFMY News 2 of Greensboro, NC is the recipient of the first-ever, prestigious:"

Sandy Carmany received a response from WFMY's news director Gina Katzmark defending the station's use of a verbatim but unattributed post from Sandy's blog (or as the director calls it - Sandy's "diary on the internet").  Problem is, Katzmark demonstrates cluelessness replete with chutzpah in her response about why they may have violated Carmany's copyright...

"As a public official, you are likely aware that the agendas, minutes and transcripts of public meetings are subject to the Freedom of Information Act and Open Meeting Law. An elected official doesn't own "exclusive rights" to public information, even if he or she decides to talk about it in a diary on the Internet."

Katzmark is correct about what public officials don't "own", but she is dead wrong if she thinks that Sandy's published and copyrighted words should not be properly attributed.

Maybe JR or Lex will want to weigh in here... seems I remember something about  past instances concerning WFMY's slackness of attribution for the use of N&R's copyrighted material?
