AN ALTERNATIVE TO POSTING ON THE BIG JOB BOARDS The best and safest way, but not the easiest, to use the big job boards is to search the jobs listings. Searching job listings takes a great deal of time but you know what jobs and companies or headhunters your are responding to. I recommend CareerBuilder because it was originally set up as a job searching board and it still reflects its roots, and I post jobs on CareerBuilder. HotJobs has advantages because of its association with Yahoo (Yahoo owns HotJobs). Monster is so large that running an effective search is difficult but not impossible. Quite a few job searchers place their resumes on the job boards in the confidential mode so their names and contact information are not revealed. Confidential postings have a couple of inherent problems. Both third party recruiters and company recruiters do not like to waste their time sending emails to the confidential candidate because they are so very often just tire kickers. Even if they do reply it is usually so late in the interview process, the recruiter cannot remember why they sent the email in the first place. No matter what approach you take to job hunting, an active candidate will always receive more contacts than a passive one, but passive candidates usually know the recruiter is pretty serious.
