OH HEADHUNTER, OH HEADHUNTER, WHERE FORTH ART THOU? I decided that before I tell you how to select the "right" third party recruiter to help you with your job search it might be informative to learn where to find some recruiters. I put together the following list of headhunters and some useful job hunting books and web sites in no particular order. This is not an exhaustive list, I'm merely trying to help job hunters with their search, not write the definitive job hunting tome.
- The Directory of Executive Recruiters 2003 by Kennedy Information (sometimes called "THE RED BOOK"). For many job hunters this might not be the best source to use because it does concentrate on Executive Recruiters. I am proud to say, Discovery Personnel, Inc. is listed and we do place a wide range of technical and management skills in the Plastic Industry.
- CareerXroads is a very good book that lists the top 500 recruiting related web sites. I almost did not list it because my web site is not listed in the book but I recommend at least considering buying the book or getting it at the library. The book can be purchased at www.careerxroads.com or at Amazon or in a Barnes and Nobles store. The www.careerxroads.com site also offers some very good information for job hunters.
- Recruiters Online Network (RON) is a group of several hundred independent recruiting firms. By going to their web site you can search for recruiters by specialty, location, etc.
- The Top Echelon Network is another group of several hundred independent recruiting firms that provides a listing of third party recruiters listed at their web site by specialty, locations, etc. I you go to specialty and type in Plastics you will find Discovery Personnel, Inc. I am slightly biased but I think this is one of the easiest sites to navigate.
- The National Association of Professional Recruiters is yet another listing of several hundred independent recruiting firms and it is one of the oldest. You can find it at www.napsweb.org.
- Management Recruiters, Inc. claims to be the largest group of recruiters in the United States and possibly the world. Management recruiters differs from the previous three recruiting associations in that is a franchise. The web site does let you look up recruiters by specialty, location, name, etc.
- Another recruiting franchise and one of the oldest is Dunhill Staffing, Inc. I was placed in at least one of my positions by a Dunhill recruiter. You can look up recruiters by specialty, location, etc. on their web site www.dunhillstaffing.com.
- Fortune Personnel Consultants is another franchise recruiting company. I tried to look around their web site www.fortuneral.com today but I had some problems so I cannot provide any information about the site.
I have not listed some of the heavy weights in recruiting, such as Robert Half and Associates, because they usually call you, you rarely call them. Most of the heavy hitting recruiting firms can be found in the Tuesday listing of The Wall Street Journal. It is estimated that their are about 140,000 third party recruiters in the United States so you should be able to find one that fits your needs.
