A HUNTING WE WILL GO!

I  could write a book on recruiting and I am sure it would be quite dry and full of very useless statistics.  Fortunately, someone has already written a book about Headhunting and it is short, inexpensive, and considering the subject, pretty interesting.  The book is HEADHUNTERS REVEALED! by Darrell Gurney, CPC.  You can purchase the book from Amazon or www.hunterarts.com , which is also the author's web site.   Some people believe that HEADHUNTERS REVEALED! is a little light on content and a lot of what he says is obvious but I believe the devil is in the details.  If you could see all of the mistakes candidates make that I have seen, you would understand why I like this book.  Now back to how to pick the "right" headhunter.  There are a lot of criteria to use to decide which recruiter or recruiters to chose:

  • As they say in the real estate business, LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION
  • Specialty
  • Expertise
  • Technological know-how.
  • State of the art equipment.
  • Professionalism
  • Personality fit.
  • Years of experience

Darrell states on page 33 of HEADHUNTERS REVEALED!:

"In the same way you would weigh all of these elements when selecting a physician, accountant, or attorney, you must take them into account in choosing a headhunter.  A haphazard choice may indeed be hazardous."

Over the next few days, I intend to discuss each of the criteria and assign a numerical value range to each.  This will provide anyone who is as anal as I am with the opportunity of taking some of the personal bias out of the selection process by calculating relative headhunter values.
