HEADHUNTING AND TECHNOLOGICAL KNOWLEDGE When I talk about headhunter technological knowledge, I'm talking about technological knowledge of the field where he or she is trying to place candidates. If the third party recruiter knows nothing about Information Systems, it is very unlikely he or she can do a really first rate job of placing an Information Systems Engineer or Manager. When the bottom fell out of the IT market, many headhunters tried switching to the healthcare industry, placing nurses, nurse administrators and etc. but they had no experience placing or being nurses. The healthcare industry quickly caught on to what was happening and actually had recruiters taking tests before they would work with them. One reason Discovery Personnel, Inc. recruits primarily for the plastics industry is that everyone in the office has either worked in or worked with the plastics industry and we know a lot about it. There are some things we do not know but at least we have a solid technological foundation in our niche.
There are some recruiters that can do a good job of recruiting with a solid technological base in their niche but they are few an far between. I assign a point value of between 0 and 5 for technological knowledge because it is a rather important third party recruiter attribute.
