HEADHUNTER AREAS OF SPECIALTY OR EXPERTISE

I define a third party recruiter's area of specialty as the basic industry or industries they serve.  This differs from my definition of expertise in that expertise is the type of experience the job hunter has, such as Process Engineer, Plant Manager Salesperson.  Some recruiters primarily place Salespeople in any industry.  I call that expertise.  I know this is semantics and I may not be doing a good job but I am going to continue.  The third party recruiting firm I work for Discovery Personnel, Inc. specializes in the Plastics Industry and we will place anyone who has worked for a period of time in the Plastics Industry and that includes trying to place a person with plastic sales experience but we will not try to place insurance salespeople.

Most recruiters do have an area of specialty or expertise and I believe it is very important to team up with at least one recruiter who specializes in your industry, or the industry you are most interested in joining, and a recruiter who has expertise your area of expertise.  This greatly increases the job hunter's chances of landing a position because the the specialty headhunter's and expertise headhunter's areas rarely overlap and they can come up with positions that don't exactly fit both areas.  For example, a film salesperson might be placed as a salesperson in a packaging company because the recruiter with the sales expertise has contacts in that area and the salesperson has contacts in the packaging industry.  Another example actually happened.  We recently placed a individual with a great deal of thermoforming equipment service experience in a Sales position because of his contacts.  This happened because of our niche in the plastic's industry, whereas a third party recruiter with only sales expertise, probably would not have found this individual.

I give the specialty headhunter or the expertise headhunter a point value of (0 to 5).
