Distractions

I feel like I've been just throwing a lot of stuff up here the last couple of days without putting in the time to be thoughtful. I've been too scattered, anxious. Lots of things on my mind. Maybe after some sleep, some time to sit, slow the brain down, observe, listen, take note...

What was it that I posted from Rebecca's Pocket recently? Oh right. Bears repeating:

  • Pay attention. Notice little things. Ask yourself how you feel. Ask yourself how he feels. Note the color. Pay attention to the language, yours and hers. Watch the interaction. Estimate the size. Listen. Listen harder.

Reminds me too of a journal writing book I've used and really like: Sheila Bender's Keeping a Journal You Love. There's a section in the front that I sometimes return to with seven exercises for developing creative writing skills. She says:

First and foremost, writing is a re-creation of experience – experiences we have in the world and experience we’ve had within ourselves. Experience is lived through the five senses. It is what we see, hear, taste and touch that add up to the impressions from which we form our attitudes, take actions and create dreams... Even though you are only writing for yourself in your journal, if your writing does not include details and images that appeal to the five senses, you will not be immersed in experience when you are writing.

I guess there are times we don't want to be immersed in our experiences. I've noticed sometimes I get very chatty when I'm anxious. Throwing up distractions, as I've been doing here. Need time to breathe, to let go, to let be, observe, listen, immerse, take note...

Distractors: In instructional design, distractors are the incorrect choices in a multiple-choice test. To be effective, distractors are supposed to be equally attractive to someone who doesn’t know the correct answer. Knowing what's right, in your heart, helps avoid that problem.

Movies to see

I'm planning to see a couple of new movies this weekend: Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and Monsieur Ibrahim.

I also recently put together a list of movies that are now out on DVD that I managed to miss in regular release. I find when I go into a video store I end up standing there with my mouth open staring at all the choices but forgetting the ones I wanted to see but missed. So here's my list so far, with Rotten Tomatoes' tomato-meter ratings (% of critics recommending a movie):

Mostly Martha  86%  √

Ghost World  92%

Lantana  91%

Shattered Glass  91%

Nine Queens  92%

Russian Ark  89%

Read My Lips  96%

Time Out  95%

The Taste of Others  100%

Google searches

Among the Google searches bringing people to my blog, I frequently get "house party" and "boobs". I knew it was a mistake to use that word in a post. I also get "house party boobs photos" and the like - people are really strange. Now I suppose I will get even more. They will be disappointed. My favorite recent searches landing here were:

dogs in party out fits

nearly spring

spanish berrinchuda

Jorge Salinas naked photos (okay, I had to check that out - gave up after looking at 2 pages of listings that were clearly nada)

There was also a search for "All Of The Things We Want Each Other To Be" from someone in the Netherlands. I checked that one - it turns up 8 pages of sites posting the words to Nelly Furtado's song, "Try." Great song. I included some of the words in my January 12 post that explored the idea of soul mates: "Free in our love."
