Blue Hills

I got out to Blue Hills Reservation with a friend today – well, two friends if you count Sam, my friend Lori’s 11 1/2 year old chocolate Lab. We picked up these really yummy wrap sandwiches at Baker's Best in Newton on the way (I had a grilled salmon wrap - do I know how to hike or what?). We hiked for about two hours or so in Blue Hills, then got ice cream at J.P. Licks and ate it at a nearby lake while Sammy cleaned off the muck she picked up hiking. I got to break in the nice Salomon hiking books I bought last year and never got around to using. They were quite comfortable.

This weekend finally feels like spring around here – yesterday afternoon I was out walking by the Charles River in my shirtsleeves (prior to seeing the fascinating film, My Architect – really worth seeing). This is Patriot’s Day weekend, and Monday’s the Boston Marathon, so there were a lot of people out running by the river – well, out running everywhere – this weekend. Tomorrow morning the Marathon starts off sometime after 11AM, which is when the annual Patriot’s Day Red Sox game also starts, the Sox against the Yankees. It is a BIG weekend here. I like to watch the race on TV, or at least see the early finishers come in in the men’s and women’s competitions.  It’s predicted to be in the 80’s tomorrow, unfortunately for the runners. But I will be happy to open all the windows in my house, wear shorts and go barefoot. It’s getting to be my favorite time of year.
