Green day

I wish I could show you how green it is outside the sliding glass doors of my office this morning. My camera can’t capture it. Just beyond my deck with its green resin table and green-and-white striped umbrella, there’s a mural of variegated greenery – from the dark green of pine needles to the apple-green of fresh-unfurled new leaves to the pale green patches of lichen on the bark of the nearest tree. My houseplant just inside the doors, a Dieffenbachia, has its big ears all turned toward the call of the wild outside; it’s practically straining out of its pot. Now the sun has come out, lighting up another part of the stage. Cue the birdsong! The day’s about to begin.
