Senate Campaign News 20040713 Doug Gallagher's campaign released a poll which shows him rising into third place in the race for the Republican nomination. St Petersburg Times article Campaign Press Relase The poll conducted by Public Opinion Strategies surveyed 600 likely voters across the state and showed Bill McCollum in the lead at 23%, Martinez close behind at 19%, Gallagher surging forward to 15% and Johnnie Byrd rounding out the major canidates at 8%. But leading them all is Undecided at 31%. The poll had a margin of error of +/- 4%. Gallagher's television ad seems to have had a significant impact. It started airing in mid-June and has enjoyed being the only ad from any of the campaigns on tv for most of its run. Election day is seven Tuesdays from now. Minimum Wage Debate The minimum wage is likely to be an issue in the Florida election this year as various groups collected signatures to place a referendum on the November ballot that calls for increasing the minimum wage to $6.15/hr. Senate Campaign News 20040712 Not much news came out over the weekend while I was in Jacksonville.: The Sami Al-Arian issue just won't go away for Betty Castor. While it may not have an affect on the Democratic primary, it could be quite costly for her if it turns a usually reliable Democratic Jewish vote against her.
