I blogged recently about a dust-up at OSU between a grad student who got a paper published in Science saying that post-wildfire logging doesn't accelerate regrowth, and several faculty who had based their careers on the opposite view and tried to get the paper pulled.

Here's the latest chapter in the story. The US Government pulled the grad student's funding, then quickly reversed itself after its intentions were questioned.

In a related note, there has been some nuttiness at NASA related to a Bush campaign staffer who got a job at NASA as a PR flack and tried to censor NASA scientists. Oh, and he misrepresented his own qualifications along the way...

It's never pleasant when research and politics collide.
