Some more on Katrina responses

I had expected a bunch of press releases on automation supplier responses to the disaster. Last week I wrote about the first responses. In fact, we set up a special page at Automation World to compile the responses. My fear was a bunch of self-serving press releases from over-achieving PR types worried that their clients weren't getting any publicity. So far, that hasn't happened. Here's the current crop of releases.

Wonderware, a unit of announced yesterday a collaboration with some business associates to provide special assistance to companies that need to rebuild in the wake of Katrina. Specifically, this support offer is intended to assist companies involved in power generation and distribution, water and wastewater treatment, oil and gas production, refining, chemicals and other industrial manufacturing businesses. In addition, Invensys and InSource Solutions are actively supporting urgent humanitarian efforts by collecting and matching employee cash donations to the American Red Cross Hurricane 2005 Relief Fund.

Authorized Wonderware distributors for the affected regions, Standard Automation and InSource Solutions, also are offering combinations of no-charge software consulting and preferred application consulting services rates to qualified companies.

Several Wonderware and ArchestrA technology certified systems integrators including the Automation Alliance Group, Maverick Technologies and Prism Systems, are offering preferred services rates to assist companies in the rapid restoration of their automation and information system functionality.

There's some "fine print," but if you are in the area and able to start rebuilding, contact your local Wonderware rep.

Omron Corp.(Kyoto, Japan) and Omron Management Center of America (Schaumburg, IL) have pledged a total of $300,000 to support victims and aid reconstruction in the areas recently devastated by Hurricane Katrina. Omron Corporation's contribution will be made through the Japan Red Cross, while Omron Management Center of America will make a donation to the U.S. Red Cross through Omron Foundation Inc. The donation from Omron Foundation, Inc. includes a matching gift from equaling the total value of contributions made by U.S. Omron employees.
